BJP to launch Telugu news channel
Taking a cue from other political parties in Andhra Pradesh, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to launch its own Telugu news channel christened Orange TV in order to take its ideology to the common people and counter propaganda of TV channels run by other political outfits.
The political outfit, which wants to establish a foothold in the state, is planning to invest Rs 2.5 million in building a facility at the party's four-storied state office building.
Zee group to shut Telugu news channel
Zee News Limited-owned Telugu news channel, Zee 24 Gantalu, has become the first casualty of the overcrowded regional news channel space in Andhra Pradesh. The 24/7 news channel from next month will cease to exist. It was launched just three years ago in the early 2009.
The company's joint venture entity, Media Pro Enterprize Private Limited, which owns the satellite rights of the channel, on Tuesday issued a public notice stating it would not telecast from the midnight of September 20. The company, however, did not give any reason behind its decision.
Asianet to air special programmes for Onam
Star Network's Malayalam general entertainment channel Asianet is gearing up to offer special programming on the occasion of Onam.
Starting 25 August, the channel will be airing interviews, films, special programmes and music-based shows which will continue till 31 August.
Airtel digital TV expands Malayalam bouquet with Asianet Movies
Airtel digital TV, the DTH service from Bharti Airtel, has added 'Asianet Movies', the newly launched round-the-clock movie channel from Asianet Communications, to its portfolio.
'Asianet Movies' will be available to customers on channel No 598 and will be part of the free Malayalam top-up. With this, Airtel digital TV has augmented its Malayalam channel count to 15 and total channel count to 300.

Prasar Bharati to get aggressive on revenue growth
Prasar Bharati, India's public broadcaster, is putting in place plans to increase its revenues.
Aggressive marketing of advertising slots, putting to use spare infrastructure, bringing about an improvement in content, augmenting DTH services and sharing of towers are among the measures being taken by the broadcaster to bridge the substantial gap between its revenues and expenses, according to sources in the broadcaster.
