Zee Entertainment Enterprise Ltd. plans to launch two new channels in Punjab and Kerala to increase its regional offerings to eleven local languages.
Both channels will be launched by the next fiscal, Punit Goenka, managing director and chief executive officer of the company told BloombergQuint.
“We will leave no stone unturned for Kerala and Punjab markets. From where we stand today, we see no opportunity for acquisitions, so it has to be greenfield,” he said. In Kerala, the company plans to launch a general entertainment channel while for Punjab, it will be a hybrid between music and films, he added.

A new channel for classic Tamil and Hindi music, Lyca TV Classic, has launched on Lyca TV IPTV platform. The channel was launched on Diwali and is available as a pay-TV channel for Lyca TV subscribers. Already Lyca TV is running a general Tamil music channel, called Lyca TV Music HD, on Lyca TV. This channel is competing directly with IBC Music, which is available on Lebara Play IPTV platform. Both channels would like to be a platform for music produced by independent Tamil artists living abroad.

Doordarshan’s experiments with specialised channels aimed at various sectors did not see the outcome on expected lines. It may, however, come up with a 24×7 channel dedicated to an issue.
The third National Wildlife Action Plan (NWAP), effective till 2031, has recommended setting up 'DD Prakriti’, a television channel, for promoting awareness about nature conservation in India. The indigenous exclusive nature channel may start in 2018 and continue through the period of the NWAP.
