A new Tamil TV-channel, called Tharakai TV, from Canada will launch on 23rd September. It will be the first royalty based media in Tamil.
ABOUT THARAKAI
Tharakai TV is not your average or everyday Tamil channel. It stands above the crowd of IP TV’s in Tamil households and our programming is in line with international best practices. For instance, unlike other channels, we are very concerned about artists’ promotion. This is our way of contributing to the growth of the Tamil Independent industry. Respect for the hard work artistes put into their music is something conventional media is known for, and we operate in line with this perspective.
With this impactful initiative, we have been playing our part with the capital support aimed at developing the Tamil independent music and film industry. We engage in partnerships with top and highly respected industry entrepreneurs in Canada as well as across the whole of Europe for success stories in this aspect.
ROYALTY PAYMENT
It takes much more to be an artiste than song writing, album recording and sales. That said, a royalty refers to the payment one party mak es to another party for continual use of their asset. The party which pays is the licensee/ franchisee, and the party which owns the asset is the licensor/ franchisor. This arrangement is very legal and will serve independent artistes well to trying to have a sound understanding of the royalty streams available. The particular initiative we are involved in is aimed at accelerating the growth of the independent Tamil Music Industry.
PROMOTING HOMEGROWN TALENT
The motherland has experienced a surge in talent growth for some years now. In fact, there are lots of production by upcoming artistes, which have been widely accepted the world over. Productions by home grown talents such as Solaiayan, Poovizhi, Singari and Romeo are proof that there is no limit to what we can expect from these parts. Tharakai is the reliable exposure platform to aid these talented artistes in their career, and to ensure they don’t run out of funds for subsequent productions.
THE FUTURE
Tamil community has grown significantly by population over the last decade. In support of this growth, there was an evolution in Tamil business sector. Major shifts are occurring in television advertising. Specifically, specialty television (cable, Pay TV and Pay-Per- View) is helping to propel growth in television advertising as it is growing at almost four times the rate than that of broadcast TV (Private, Public and non-commercial conventional television). We will be the first royalty based media in Tamil. We believe in our artists and would like to be in the forefront for them to take it to the next level.
