Only six months ago, the Tamil television scene witnessed intense competition among channels for acquiring big budget films. Now, the contest has spilled over to small and medium budget films as well, increasing the quoting value of new Tamil films. If it was Jaya TV that stirred up the scene last year by bagging high-profile projects like Kochadaiyaan and Maattrraan, it is the relatively-new Zee Tamil which is behind the current scene.

Star India has launched its Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) Star Plus on BSkyB's online television service Sky Go from 28 March.
Star Plus is the first Asian television channel to launch on the Sky Go platform that allows Sky TV customers to watch live TV on the move on laptops, tablets, PCs, Macs and smartphones.

After another disruption on Monday, the BBC suspended the service.
The BBC said that listeners in Sri Lanka could still access the BBC on shortwave and via its website.
The BBC suspended its FM programming in Sri Lanka in similar circumstances in February 2009, during the height of fighting between troops and Tamil Tiger rebels.

The Centre today informed the Madras High Court that TRAI has recommended that the central, state governments and their undertakings should not be allowed to enter the broadcasting sector.
When the case relating to Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Ltd came up before Justice S Rajeswaran, Additional Solicitor General P Wilson referred to TRAI's recommendation.

The BBC's World Service Director, Peter Horrocks, today announced the suspension of BBC broadcasts on SLBC (the Sri Lankan Broadcasting Corporation) following continued interruption and interference of BBC Tamil programming on SLBC.
Peter Horrocks said: "We regret the disruption in service to our loyal audiences in Sri Lanka, but such targeted interference in our programmes is a serious breach of trust with those audiences, which the BBC cannot allow.
