Tamil entertainment channel to launch this year with support of Harris solutions
A Tamil entertainment channel is expected to launch by the end of this year. Venthar Television will use Harris Broadcast Communications to support the the launch the new regional entertainment channel from ingest to playout.
The channel will also incorporate regular news bulletins. Its new facility in Chennai will house two HD production control rooms to manage studio production activity, and a master control room (MCR) to monitor signal quality prior to over-the-air transmission.
Harris will deliver a complete high-definition (HD) integrated file-based broadcast solution to Venthar Television to support the launch of the channel.

AP minister's family may take over Zee Telugu news channel
The company is yet to make any announcement in this regard.
Zee News Limited may not shut down its Telugu news channel 'Zee 24 Gantalu' as announced by the company last month. Sources close to the development said Zee had accepted an offer to run the channel by a political family from Andhra Pradesh.
According to the information, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana's family would acquire close to 70 per cent equity in the channel while Zee would hold the rest. The company is yet to make any announcement in this regard.

DD's DTH platform rejects 2 TV channels, 15 opt out
DD Direct Plus has rejected two television channels to hop on to its free-to-air direct-to-home (DTH) platform, while 15 broadcasters have opted out of it.
Care World and India News participated in the e-auction but could not qualify, according to Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting S Jagathrakshakan.
The 15 channels which did not participate in the recent e-auction conducted by Doordarshan are IBN Lokmat, News 24, E-24, Mahuaa, Kairali, Kalaignar, ABN Andhra Jyothi, S V Bhakti, Amrita, Total TV, Jai Hind, MH-One, News Live, Music India and Pragya.

Marans take a pay cut as Sun TV profits fall
Kalanithi Maran and wife Kaveri Kalanithi, promoters of Sun TV, have seen their remuneration fall for the first time in recent years. The company's profit came under pressure in 2011-12 and the Marans took home a package of Rs.114 crore (Rs.57 crore each), down by 11% from last year.
In 2006-07, the combined salary of the couple was Rs.46.5 crore.
Internet too guilty of carrying illegal channels
A parliamentary committee has expressed surprise at the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry's failure to check the sources that carry non-permitted television channels other than the cable operators.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology has said it cannot understand the reason behind the I&B Ministry's assertion that the cable operators were to be blamed for the carriage of illegal television channels.
