DD to digitise 39 studios in 2012-13, no new transmitters planned
Doordarshan has no plans of any new transmitters in the current year, but will complete digitisation of 39 studios by March 2013.
Doordarshan presently covers 92 per cent population and 81 per cent area through 1415 transmitters.
The pubcaster will also complete ten earth station projects, two high power transmitter projects, 56 automode low power transmitters, and one very low power transmitter. Two studio projects were completed in 2011-12.

Vijaykant's Captain News to launch 29 August
Captain Media, the media venture of Tamil actor and politician Vijaykant, will start a 24-hour news channel named Captain News.
The channel is set to go on air beginning 29 August.
"We are happy to inform you that Captain Media Private Limited will launch its 24-hour news channel 'Captain News' from 29 August," Captain Media managing director LK Sudheesh said.
AIR plans to up FM coverage to 90% of population
All India Radio proposes to set up 385 new FM transmitters in the Twelfth Plan in the country to increase the FM coverage to 90 per cent population.
However, this is subject to allocation of funds and approval of the Planning Commission, Information and Broadcasting Ministry sources said.
At present, AIR FM reaches out to 41.43 per cent population and 29.18 per cent area. This is part of the total AIR coverage of 91.87 per cent area and 99.19 per cent population.
Madhukar Pandey launches internet radio Radiowhiskey.in
Former Reliance Broadcast Network (RBNL) business head- central India cluster Madhukar Pandey is launching his own venture.
Pandey is introducing an internet radio website, which is expected to go live by mid-July.
Titled Radiowhiskey.in, the tagline of the website says "Nasha music ka". The internet radio channel will predominantly be playing Indian music along with other popular music 24X7.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa lifts Colors to No. 2
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, the celebrity dancing reality show, has lifted Colors to the No. 2 position as it opened with a TVR of 3.1.
The two-and-a-half hour show, which debuted on 16 June at 9 pm, helped Colors add 15 GRPs and improve its preceding week's ranking of No. 4.
Colors collected 215 GRPs (gross rating points) for the week ended 16 June, as per TAM data in HSM, C&S, 4+ (sourced from the Hindi GECs).
