'Radio equipment for LTTE by SL worried India'
India had expressed concerns after the Sri Lankan government imported radio equipment from Norway for supplying to the separatist Tamil Tigers, a new US cable leaked by Wikileaks has revealed. The secret cable sent by the US Embassy in Colombo claimed that the United National Party (UNP), which was in power in 2002, had requested and received radio equipment which was then handed over to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) through the government departments.The equipment was meant for LTTE's radio channel, Voice of the Tigers (VoT), broadcast out of areas under control of the rebels.

Mathrubhumi gets set to launch news channel
'Mathrubhumi,' Kerala's second most popular Malayalam daily, is getting ready to launch its 24-hour news and current affairs television channel shortly.Speaking to IANS, M.V. Shreyams Kumar, Mathrubhumi's director of electronic media, said they are hoping to launch the channel ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections, likely to be held in May 2011.
'The channel's licences are expected any time now and the recruitment is already on. It will be based in Thiruvananthapuram and the office complex is getting ready,' said Kumar, a legislator in the Kerala assembly of the Socialist Janata Democratic party, which was formed after the break-up with Janata Dal (S).
Gemini launches new family drama No. 23 Mahalakshmi Nivasam
The Sun Networks' Telugu general entertainment channel Gemini TV has announced the launch of a new daily family drama soap No. 23 Mahalakshmi Nivasam, which will start airing from 30 December.Produced by Radaan Mediaworks, the soap has the production house's founder and head of creative Raadhika Sarathkumar in the lead role.

Suvarna scripts a programming turnaround
Star's Kannada offering Suvarna is on a roll these days. The channel seems to be on the path to entrenching itself, at least for now, in the number two slot in the Kannada GEC space. The top three positions were for long occupied by the Sun Network's Udaya TV, the number one player by far; Ramoji Rao's ETV Kannada at No 2; and Zee Kannada, a relatively newer entrant at the third spot."Suvarna stands for fresh entertainment. Call it fiction or non-fiction or any program for that matter; our approach is to offer differentiated and fresh concepts as programs," says Suvarana business head Anup Chandrasekharan.
