Star Gold now available on Virgin Media
Star Network has announced the launch of Star Gold on the British pay-TV and broadband provider Virgin Media as part of their 'Asian Mela' offering.
Star Network channels available on Virgin Media's 'Asian Mela' bundle now include Star Plus, Star Life Ok and Star Gold.
Star UK and Europe SVP Yeshpal Sharma stated, "With the launch of Star Gold on Virgin Media - the UK's largest cable platform, the Star Network has further strengthened its offering to its loyal and growing UK viewers."
Sony launches first South Asian channel on Freeview
SONY SAB has launched what it claims is the first Hindi language channel outside of a satellite, cable or IPTV platform.
Available on the Freeview DTT network in the Greater Manchester area of the UK, SONY SAB's Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) will offer a blend of family programming, comedy and movies. It is currently available in more than 15.5 million homes on free-to-air satellite and terrestrial in the UK via Sky and Freesat.

Govt plans own channel, real autonomy for Doordarshan
The information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry has asked regulator Trai for a review of the policy which disallows government ownership of television channels. This letter to the regulator is seen as a precursor to the Centre launching a TV channel of its own.
On November 30, I&B secretary Uday Kumar Varma wrote to Trai chairman Rahul Khullar asking him "to kindly provide your recommendations as to whether the following may be allowed" in broadcasting: central and state government ministries and departments, state-owned companies, undertakings and joint ventures.

Vision Asia selects Telstra for Australia and New Zealand market
Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite broadcaster, Vision Asia, has selected Telstra to provide managed satellite services for its Australian and New Zealand viewers in a deal worth more than $24 million over 10 years.
Telstra receives the Vision Asia content from its international source, encrypts, encodes and multiplexes at its Perth teleport, and then transmits the complete package to Vision Asia's customers across Australia and New Zealand.
Telstra Global head of voice, satellite business Peter Hobbs said, "Telstra's new managed global satellite service offers a quality alternative for Australian broadcasters and continues the company's growth in its suite of network application and services. Vision Asia will be the first organisation to benefit from Telstra's DTH broadcast services."

Suvarna to air 2nd season of Kannada KBC from 11 March
Suvarna will air the second season of 'Kannadada Kotyadhipathi' (Kannada KBC or Who wants to be a Millionaire) from 11 March.
The 80-episode game show will run over 20 weeks and will be hosted by the season 1 host and sandalwood actor Puneet Rajkumar. The duration of each episode is 90 minutes.
The prize money will remain at Rs 10 million (Rs 1 crore), the highest on offer in the southern TV space. The call for entries to participate in the show will start from 15 December on Suvarna, with Puneet Rajkumar asking a question everyday on the Kannada general entertainment channel.
