Before the 17 October board meeting of Prasar Bharati, Jawhar Sircar, chief executive of the public service broadcaster that runs Doordarshan and All India Radio, was tense. With less than a month to go at the helm of Prasar Bharati, Sircar had been working overtime to prepare his arguments to revive the prime-time programming slot auction that could not materialize earlier because of internal dissent.

“This is the last battle of my service life and I better win it,” said the chatty CEO who resigned on 3 October, four months before his scheduled retirement due in February 2017. Sircar plans to leave the organization on 4 November, just after Diwali and will relocate to Kolkata.

GTBC FM (Global Tamil Broadcasting Corporation) has surprisingly been renamed as Athavan Radio. GTBC was first started as a web radio station, but later it replaced Tamil International Radio (TIR), a radio station from Sri Lanka run by EPDP, on Eutelsat Hotbird satellite on 13 degree East. 
Due to high costs to broadcast on satellite, one by one Tamil radio stations closed down their satellite transmissions - and GTBC was one of them - leaving only TRT Tamil Olli, IBC Tamil Radio and ILC Tamil Radio as remaining Tamil satellite radio stations in Europe. 

TTN Tamil Oli from France has been off-air for over a week now without any announcement. But recently TTN Tamil Oli has announced on their facebook page that the channel is currently off-air because the channel had to move from their current address at Rue Emile Zola in La Courneuve in Paris. The reason is unknown. But the TTN management has announced that the channel will resume transmission soon with a new fresh look. TTN website (www.ttntamiloli.com) has been showing a live stream of TTN logo with background music, but currently the website is also down. 

Catering to the demand of regional viewers and bringing them under the High Definition umbrella, DishTV, Asia’s largest DTH service provider, has added four new regional HD channels to its HD offerings. With addition of these channels, DishTV encourages regional language subscribers to opt for HD TV viewing in their preferred language such as Marathi, Kannada, Bangla & Telugu.
