Mounting bad news takes a toll on Sun TV's stock, but analysts say company's fundamentals still remain strong.

In the past two months, Sun TV has gone through one of its most turbulent periods since inception. Its stock price has see-sawed wildly, largely due to the twin blows of a new Jayalalitha government in Tamil Nadu, as well as the political travails of Dayanidhi Maran who was a former minister for telecommunications and who recently resigned as Union Minister for Textiles. Dayanidhi, who is Sun TV founder Kalanithi Maran's brother, quit his post on Thursday from the Cabinet as the CBI began to look into allegations of his involvement in the 2G scam.

Biggest media deal for $500-600 million to give Sony a bigger share of regional pie.

In what will be the largest media deal in India, Multi-Screen Media (MSM), which runs Sony Television in India, is set to buy Ramoji Rao-owned Eenadu TV's (ETV's) bouquet of 11 regional channels.

According to four independent sources, the talks are at an advanced stage and an announcement is expected shortly.

The deal size is expected to be close to $500-600 million (Rs 2,250-2,400 crore), eclipsing transactions such as Disney's strategic investments in UTV, Turner's buyout of NDTV Imagine from New Delhi Television and Viacom teaming up with Network18, which runs India's version of CNBC.

Watching non-Malayalam films will no longer be a trouble for those of us who find it hard to follow the Hindi and Tamil accents or the foreign dialects.

One television channel has been devoting its services to bring to the Malayalis other-language films with Malayalam subtitles.

The channel, which has been available on local cable TV services, is now going to be launched with noted filmmaker Lal Jose as its creative head. The soft launch of its logo was inaugurated by actor Dileep at a function held in Ernakulam.

Movie buffs in the South are going to have more action on their television sets soon. UTV, which launched Action channel in Hindi last year, would come out with its regional variants. To begin with, it would launch one in Telugu next week with a library of 250 Hollywood action movies.

Mr M. K. Anand, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), UTV Broadcast (Entertainment), said the channel promised to air Telugu premiers of Hollywood movies within three months of their Indian premier.
