The action movie genre has suddenly started to heat up with big media players eyeing the rapidly expanding market.

The latest to join the bandwagon is South Indian media major Sun TV network. The Kalanithi Maran-owned media conglomerate has launched four action movie channels in the four southern states starting today.

Interestingly, all the channels - Sun Action in Tamil, Gemini Action in Telugu, Suriyan TV in Kannada and Surya Action in Malayalam

Viacom18's flagship Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) Colors has made it to the second position again after a hiatus of four weeks. And helping the channel regain its ranking is the first Golden Petal Awards.

As per TAM data for the week ended 31 December (C&S, 4+, HSM), Colors has added 38 GRPs (gross rating points) to its kitty to register 256 GRPs (last week 218). The telecast of Colors Golden Petal Awards (CGPA) on 25 December at 8 pm fetched a TVR of 4.98.

Pakistan Television (PTV) Managing Director (MD) Yousuf Baig Mirza said on Sunday that PTV will launch its sports channel in January.

Mirza was speaking to the media in Multan.

While explaining the concept behind starting a new channel, Mirza said that this new venture will help Pakistan promote its sports.

"The channel is not aimed at taking away other channels' market share but will be a healthy competition," said Mirza.
 

The PTV MD said that the channel will be launched by the middle of January 2012.

Channel [V], the youth channel from the Star India stable, is launching talk show format 'My Big Decision' starting 14 January.
A BBC Worldwide Production, My Big Decision will air every Saturday at 7 pm.
